Qld Health (CIMHA)
Need for new system
Queensland Health required a new system to replace three existing outdated applications which did not provide the full functionality required by Queensland’s Mental Health Act. Dialog was chosen to design and build the new system, which was to be called Consumer Integrated Mental Health Application (CIMHA).
The new mental health application provides a simple to use and comprehensive tool for clinical practitioners and administrative personnel.
Dialog undertook all aspects of the development: project initiation and establishment of governance processes, project management, review of functional requirements, application and technical architecture, design, programming, testing and integration with several existing applications. The Dialog team, comprising over 25 Dialog consultants, was located on-site.
Dialog also undertook the complex tasks of architecture, design and development of the central data warehouse, source data rationalisation processes, data quality improvement processes, the data migration engine and the web based delivery systems that used the new central data repository.
The source data rationalisation processes took data from 27 separate instances of an application system. The data model of each system was similar but there was little validation in these legacy systems with the result that data quality was variable and duplication of patients was possible.
For over 30 years Dialog has worked with government and private sector Health organisations to create and support a wide range of Health solutions.
Dialog’s architecture provided three software application tiers under a Service Oriented Architecture (SOA). The components used included: MS .Net framework 2.0, ASP.Net, C#.Net, SQL Server and Crystal Reports.
The new mental health application provides a simple to use and comprehensive tool for clinical practitioners and administrative personnel. The system enables its users to confirm the current, up to date position with each consumer, providing confidence in diagnosis and proposed treatment and giving enormously improved patient care and safety.
