Dialog builds Disaster Management Portal for Queensland

The Queensland Government has launched the Queensland Disaster Management Portal. The Portal provides important up-to-date information to over 1,000 users across Queensland. These include State Government agencies (e.g. Qld Fire and Emergency Services), local governments and other emergency focused organisations (e.g. RACQ). The Portal enhances collaboration and information sharing among Queensland's disaster management stakeholders.  It has been designed to align with the comprehensive approach encompassing all hazards and the four phases of disaster management: prevention, preparedness, response and recovery.

Police, Fire and Emergency Services Minister Bill Byrne said the new online hub gave key stakeholders access to important resources, including guidelines and policies, related to disaster management.

“The delivery of this innovative project marks a new era for disaster management in Queensland,” Minister Byrne said.

“The Disaster Management Portal will improve Queensland’s ability to prevent, prepare, respond and recover when emergencies and disasters strike through increased collaboration and the sharing of essential information.

“It will also let users communicate innovative ideas, and provide feedback and comments, making this a business as usual system in the area of disaster management".

Dialog Information Technology designed and built the SharePoint 2013 site to be robust, scalable and easy to use.

It was developed using an Agile approach within a very tight timeframe. Iterations of the Portal were released which allowed users to begin using the Portal early in the development lifecycle and increased familiarity. Dialog has continued to make approved improvements to the site using the Agile approach and weekly showcases.

I would like to express my sincere gratitude for the time, effort, energy and professionalism Dialog has displayed to ensure the “Go Live” of the Disaster management portal, which was a mammoth effort within an extremely tight timeframe. My team and I are thrilled at the result.

Dialog continues to provide a managed application service for the Portal. The services offered include application support, availability management, adding new functionality and managing the Cloud hosting environment. The Portal requires high availability and therefore the hosting architecture is prepared for usage spikes which will occur when a disaster (e.g. flood) strikes. Strong disaster recovery plans for the application are in place.

Since 1979, Dialog has designed, developed and supported many critical applications for government and corporate organisations. To find out more visit our expertise page.
